Ear Wax Removal Limerick
Ear Syringing and Ear Micro-suction from our Fully Qualified & Insured Audiologists
Earwax is a natural substance that plays a crucial role in protecting the ear canal by trapping dust, debris, and bacteria. However, excessive earwax can build up over time, potentially blocking your hearing and leading to discomfort, pain, or even infections.
Maintaining healthy ears is essential to ensure they function properly. Attempting to remove excess earwax at home is not recommended, as it can push the wax deeper into the canal or damage the delicate structures within the ear. These structures include nerves, blood vessels, bones, skin glands, and hair cells that are vital for your hearing and overall ear health.
For safe and effective earwax removal, we strongly recommend consulting a trained Audiologist. Our professional services are designed to gently and thoroughly remove excess wax for patients aged 14 and older, ensuring your ears remain healthy and free of discomfort.

Ear Wax Removal Methods
Ear Syringing / Ear Irrigation
Ear syringing is a widely used method for removing excess earwax by flushing the ear canal with a gentle stream of warm water. During the procedure, our Audiologist directs the water into the ear canal, dislodging and washing out the accumulated wax. The process is typically safe and effective for most individuals and can provide immediate relief from symptoms such as hearing loss, discomfort, or a feeling of fullness caused by wax buildup.
Ear Micro-Suction
Microsuction uses a small, gentle vacuum to extract wax directly from the ear canal. Performed by our Audiologists, the procedure involves using a specialized microscope to provide a clear view of the ear canal, ensuring that the wax is removed carefully without causing harm. This method is quick, comfortable, and suitable for most individuals, offering immediate relief from symptoms such as hearing blockage or discomfort caused by earwax build-up.

How much does earwax removal cost in Limerick?
Is ear wax removal painful?
Ear wax removal at our Limerick clinic is carried out by trained audiologists who focus on comfort at every stage. Most patients feel only a slight cold feeling or gentle pressure in the ear canal during the procedure. You should not feel sharp pain, and we always stop if you need a break.
Some people notice a mild sore feeling after removal as the body adjusts. This usually settles quickly and is often linked with long-standing wax build up. If discomfort continues, we offer support and further checks to make sure your ears remain healthy.
What is the best way to clean blocked ears?
The safest method for cleaning blocked ears is professional earwax removal carried out by a qualified audiologist. At Fergusons, we assess the ear canal first, confirm wax levels, and choose the right approach to remove wax without causing damage to the ear drum or surrounding skin.
Trying to remove wax at home often pushes it deeper, which can affect hearing and cause ear pain. Professional care at our Limerick clinic helps clear excess wax gently while protecting your long-term ear health and overall hearing care.
Is microsuction safer than ear syringing?
Microsuction is often preferred by many patients as it allows the audiologist to view the ear canal clearly during wax removal. At our clinic, the gentle microsuction technique is used when suitable, as it offers precise control and avoids introducing water into the ear.
Ear syringing remains a valid option for certain patients, and we explain both methods before treatment. Your safety and comfort guide the choice, and our audiologists always select the approach that best matches your specific needs.
How long does ear wax removal take?
A standard ear wax removal appointment usually lasts around twenty to thirty minutes. This includes your initial ear examination, the removal procedure, and aftercare advice to support healthy ears once you leave the clinic.
Some visits may take a little longer if the wax is particularly hard or if the body produces excess earwax regularly. We never rush the process and ensure the removal service is carried out safely for every patient.
Can I remove ear wax at home safely?
Most home methods can push wax deeper into the ear canal and increase the risk of discomfort or ear infections. This can also cause temporary hearing loss or dizziness. For these reasons, we do not recommend trying to remove wax yourself.
Professional ear wax removal in Limerick is the safest option. Our audiologists use controlled techniques and the latest technology to remove wax carefully, keeping your hearing health protected and ensuring your ears stay clear and comfortable.
