What Happens at an Ear Wax Removal Appointment

Expert ear wax removal performed by highly qualified Audiologists, ensuring a comfortable and professional experience every time.
Medical History

Our Audiologist will review your medical history and discuss any symptoms you may be experiencing, such as hearing loss, pain, dizziness, or tinnitus. They will also go over your Consent Form with you.

Initial Consultation & Examination

Otoscopy

Next, we will examine your ears using an otoscope, a specialized device that provides a clear view inside the ear canal to evaluate the extent of wax buildup. We will also inspect the area around the back of your ears.

Selection of Removal Method

We will then explain the two methods of ear wax removal and recommend the most suitable approach based on the consistency of your ear wax, the shape of your ear canal, and your medical history. In some cases, a combination of both methods may be used.

Positioning

You will be seated in our comfortable rotational chair as the practitioner begins the procedure. Throughout the process, we will check in with you regularly to ensure you are comfortable and will request your consent to proceed at each step.

Post Procedure

Once the wax is removed, our Audiologist will re-examine your ear to confirm that all wax has been cleared and check for any signs of infection previously hidden by the wax. Detailed records of the procedure, including before and after outcomes, are maintained as medical records.

Aftercare

Our practitioner will provide you with aftercare instructions to ensure your ears remain healthy following the procedure. This includes avoiding inserting anything into your ears, including your fingers, as this could introduce infection. Additionally, it is essential to keep your ears dry for at least three days.
